Individuals
Our traditional individual therapy sessions, which range from 50 to 60 minutes, are designed to support a wide range of mental health needs, life challenges, and personal growth goals. In this space, many people come to explore and heal from experiences related to trauma, anxiety, depression, life transitions, identity, negative core beliefs, or simply a desire for deeper personal development.
We approach therapy with care, curiosity, and flexibility—tailoring each session to meet the unique needs of the individual. Our therapists draw from a variety of evidence-based approaches, always working through an affirming and trauma-informed lens. You can expect a space that feels safe, inclusive, collaborative, and centered around your goals.
Some of the modalities we use include EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and ART (Accelerated Resolution Therapy) for reprocessing trauma and negative core beliefs, as well as CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and CPT (Cognitive Processing Therapy) to help shift unhelpful thought patterns. DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) and ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) are utilized to support clients with emotional regulation, distress tolerance, psychological flexibility, and living in alignment with their values. We also incorporate Internal Family Systems (IFS), or parts work, to help clients connect with and understand different parts of themselves, and Somatic Therapy to bring attention to the body’s role in healing. When guiding goal-setting and creating forward momentum, we utilize Motivational Interviewing and Solution-Focused Therapy. We also offer holistic support for those wanting to explore the connection between mental health, physical wellbeing, and lifestyle through an integrative lens.
Couples/ENM
We offer therapy and support services for couples and people in ethically non-monogamous (ENM) relationships who are seeking deeper connection, clearer communication, and more intentional ways of relating. Whether you're navigating challenges, building stronger foundations, or exploring new dynamics, our work together creates space for each person’s voice, needs, and values to be honored.
Sessions are typically 50 to 60 minutes and are grounded in evidence-based practices, including Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Gottman-informed approaches, and communication tools drawn from mindfulness, somatic awareness, and parts work. We focus on building emotional safety, resolving conflict, repairing trust, and enhancing intimacy—both emotional and physical.
For clients in ENM relationships, we offer an affirming and nonjudgmental space to explore topics such as boundary setting, attachment dynamics, jealousy, agreements, transitions, and communication. Whether you are new to ENM or have been practicing for years, therapy can support you in aligning your relationship structure with your personal values and needs.
All services are trauma-informed, LGBTQIA+ affirming, and centered around creating a collaborative and respectful space where each person feels seen and supported. Our goal is not to define what your relationship should look like, but to help you cultivate clarity, connection, and compassion—on your own terms.
Family
Family therapy offers a supportive space to navigate the complexities of relationships, communication, and change within the family system. Whether you're facing conflict, going through a transition, healing from past wounds, or simply seeking to strengthen your connection, we work collaboratively with families to foster understanding, compassion, and growth.
Sessions typically last between 50 to 60 minutes and are tailored to the unique needs and dynamics of each family. Our therapists are trained in systemic and relational approaches that take into account the patterns, roles, and histories that shape how family members relate to one another. We also integrate trauma-informed, attachment-based, and somatic perspectives to support healing at both individual and collective levels.
Common areas of focus include communication challenges, parenting support, blended family dynamics, generational trauma, boundary-setting, and navigating life changes such as divorce, grief, or mental health concerns within the family.
We hold space for each voice to be heard and valued—creating a safe environment where family members can explore difficult topics, practice new ways of relating, and move toward more connected and resilient relationships. Our work is inclusive, affirming, and grounded in the belief that every family has the capacity to grow, repair, and thrive—together.
Retreats
Our retreat offerings are intentionally designed to create space—space to pause, breathe, and reconnect with yourself away from the noise and demands of everyday life. These experiences invite self-reflection, personal growth, and meaningful connection, all held in a supportive, peaceful environment alongside others on similar journeys.
Each retreat is guided by a thoughtfully curated program that blends workshops, embodied practices, nourishing meals, and space for integration. Whether you're seeking to deepen your self-awareness, reconnect with your body, or explore spiritual and emotional healing, our retreats offer a pathway inward—held by trained facilitators and grounded in care.
Here’s what you can expect during our retreats:
Expert-Guided Workshops
Our facilitators bring deep training and experience in areas such as mindfulness, meditation, holistic wellness, somatic healing, and personal development. Workshops are designed to offer practical tools and reflective practices that you can carry into your daily life long after the retreat ends.
Healing and Creative Practices
Each day includes opportunities to engage in restorative and expressive activities—yoga, breathwork, nature walks, and creative arts are just a few ways you’ll be invited to reconnect with your body and spirit. These experiences support presence, embodiment, and emotional release.
Intentional, Nourishing Cuisine
Meals are thoughtfully prepared to support wellbeing and honor any plant medicine dietary protocols. We embrace mindful eating as part of the healing process, with menus tailored to nourish both body and soul.
Plant Medicine Support and Integration
Select retreats may include guided experiences with plant medicines such as hapé and cacao, supported by trained facilitators. Integration circles and one-on-one support are offered to help process and ground these experiences with care, insight, and intention.
Our retreats offer not only rest—but also reconnection. With the guidance of experienced providers and the support of community, you’ll have the space to come home to yourself in a deeper way.
Group Therapy
Group therapy offers a unique opportunity to connect with others in a supportive, guided environment where shared experiences can foster insight, healing, and growth. Our groups bring people together around common themes or life challenges, creating space for reflection, connection, and community.
Led by trained and trauma-informed facilitators, our groups typically include a blend of psychoeducation, skill-building, and open sharing. Whether the focus is on anxiety, trauma recovery, identity exploration, relationships, grief, or personal development, each group is designed to offer both structure and space for authentic connection.
Group therapy can be especially powerful for reducing isolation, gaining new perspectives, and practicing interpersonal skills in a safe, contained setting. While every group is different, all are rooted in respect, confidentiality, and the belief that healing doesn’t have to happen alone.
We offer both virtual and in-person group options throughout the year. Group size is intentionally limited to support depth and safety in the space.
Intensives
At Utah Alternative Therapy, we offer intensive therapy sessions ranging from 4 to 6 hours, designed for individuals and couples seeking deeper, more focused support. These extended-format sessions provide an opportunity to dive beneath the surface—ideal for those looking to make significant progress in a shorter period of time, address complex issues more thoroughly, or who simply prefer fewer appointments with longer durations.
Intensives create a spacious, uninterrupted environment where we can explore core patterns, strengthen relational dynamics, and facilitate deeper emotional healing—work that may not be as accessible in traditional 50–60 minute sessions. Whether you're navigating trauma, working through relationship challenges, or seeking to reconnect with your most authentic self, these sessions are tailored to meet you where you are, with intention and care.
For clients interested in engaging with non-ordinary states of consciousness, intensive sessions can also incorporate psychedelic-informed therapy to support preparation, integration, and meaning-making. This approach is rooted in trauma-informed, ethically grounded care, and offers support for those seeking to integrate expanded states into their healing journey.
Intensive sessions are offered in person at our home office or can be arranged at a private location of your choosing. All services are conducted in alignment with Utah's current legal and ethical guidelines. Our goal is to create a safe, grounded, and immersive experience that honors your process and supports lasting transformation.
Ketamine Therapy
We are honored to offer ketamine integration partnering with licensed medical prescribers. We will expand that to other devices as legalized here in Utah.
